This is an addendum to my home page. I'm writing this to be of particular use to people who work with me or would like to work with me.
I'm a technical generalist with experience as a software engineer (and manager), deep learning researcher, and founder. I've been at my best when I've managed a team of 5 ICs or fewer and set the high-level strategy for the team. I tend to write obsessively on the job and in general I think I am a clear and effective communicator. My particular ethos comes through in my reading list for generalists.
You might not enjoy working with me if you are expecting a 99th percentile engineer or researcher. I am a reasonable IC (maybe like 85th percentile) but sadly I am spiritually non-technical and generally enjoy people more than things. I don't interface well with large, complex software systems, but I complement engineers who excel at this work quite nicely.
I also tend to be aesthetically opinionated: briefly, I think most people try to do too much and you should really aim for foundationally-sound designs that never conflict with function. If you're going for a splash, make it the centerpiece and surround it with solid, classic, time-tested auxiliary items. I can really dig my heels in on this, as many prior coworkers can attest. I don't want to make this its own blog post but most startup landing pages look as good as their founders dress.
One last weird note is that I am vegetarian and get a lot of satisfaction from working and eating together with other vegetarians, although my vegetarianism is not driven by strictly moral reasons (link placeholder for a blog post I'll write later).
